Description:ART OF THE NOUN: PEOPLE, PLACES, and THINGS

Those who wish may use this trip to ponder the idea of grief as a journey: "a force with momentum." Grief may encompass the midlife crisis, empty nest, retirement, illness, job or financial loss or change, death, divorce, betrayal, letting go of the past, or fear for the future. Write tributes to people lost along the way. Explore the textured territory of the place where grief resides. Articulate feelings via things that represent the many layers of grief's cocoon.

Marianne Rogoff's Writers Studio is offered this summer in the vibrant, healing cobblestone town of San Miguel de Allende, located on a high desert plateau at the geographical center of mainland Mexico. San Miguel is a well-known international expatriate and artist community with excellent restaurants, live music everywhere, a central plaza called the jardin, and thermal baths a short bus or taxi ride away.

Fly in to Leon, Guanajuato, where shuttle van will transport the group to town (1.5 hours). Arrive and depart on Wednesday. Stay at Posada de Las Monjas, a former convent/hotel a short walk from el centro.

Five-day Writers Studio (Thursday thru Monday) includes morning writing sessions, evening critiques, and individual consultation when desired, with free time to write, read, rest, and roam all afternoon and all day Tuesday. On one of the days the writing session will be held at La Gruta hot spring caves.

*Fee $850, includes 5-day Writers Studio tuition, 5 breakfasts, and round-trip airport shuttles in Mexico. Please make your own flight arrangements; Leon, Guanajuato flight will be recommended for group to arrive together, if possible. Simple single, double, or triple rooms at Posada de Las Monjas range from $55 to $75 per night; I will reserve rooms for you; pay at front desk upon departure. (There are many other hotels in town as well, from most luxurious to most humble.)

RSVP to reserve a space.

El gusto es mio. The pleasure is mine.
