Description:

Imagine spending a week at Georgia O'Keefe's famous Ghost Ranch, ensconced within a high-walled canyon in the high mesa desert of New Mexico, amid a community of women writers committed to deepening their craft and sharing their stories. Join us in August, 2009 for a week of intensive workshops, classes, panels, and discussions. Workshop participants will work in groups of no more than seven. Free agents can attend as many of the classes, panels, seminars and readings they wish, and they may otherwise spend their days writing, reading, enjoying the trails and vistas on the 21,000 acre ranch, and living in a community of women who share a passion for the written word.

Who we are: A Room of Her Own Foundation is a writing community created by women for women. In the spirit of Virginia Woolf, we are committed to bridging the often fatal gap between a woman's economic circumstances and her creative capacity. We offer a bi-annual $50,000 Gift of Freedom Award to a U.S. woman writer of merit working under economic hardship. We also hold a bi-annual writers' retreat at the breathtaking Ghost Ranch built by artist Georgia O'Keefe. The theme of our next retreat is based on a quote by Virginia Woolf: "As a woman, I have no country. As a woman, my country is the whole world." Our faculty will present a panel on this subject. Past faculty have included Leslie Marmon Silko, Kim Addonizio, Denise Chavez, Joy Harjo, Breena Clarke, and Antonya Nelson.
