Description:

Thousands of people have enjoyed the Getaway over the past 16 years, developing their craft as writers and making lifelong friends. The focus isn't on our award-winning faculty, it's on helping you improve and advance your skills.

This intensive three-day conference features a variety of poetry and prose workshops, each with 10 or fewer participants. This is a conference where you write! Of course you will receive feedback, but most of our workshops emphasize creating new material.

The Getaway offers plenty to do after hours: choose from tutorials, panels, talks, walking on the beach or relaxing in the hot tub & pool. Evenings include receptions, open mics, dancing, a bookstore cafe and more. Or of course you can keep writing in the privacy of your ocean-view room.

We are well known for our challenging and supportive workshops featuring small classes led by award-winning writers, including Stephen Dunn, recipient of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize in poetry. The Getaway welcomes beginning and experienced writers over the age of 18. Teachers can earn professional development credit as well as graduate credit from Rutgers University.
