Description:

SOUTHAMPTON WRITERS CONFERENCE (7/16 - 7/27)
As part of the Stony Brook Southampton Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Literature Program, the Southampton Writers Conference provides a forum for authors of all genres to study and discuss the craft of writing through workshops, lectures, readings and small-group discussions. Primarily a residential conference, the program includes workshops in the novel, short story, poetry, creative nonfiction, playwriting and literary essay. Workshop size is limited. Sessions meet for two and a half hours on alternate mornings throughout the Conference; remaining mornings are devoted to lectures by faculty members and leading authors. In the afternoons, participants may choose from a wide variety of "elective" sessions, which include presentations by distinguished editors, publishers and agents, as well as workshops on special topics in writing. Evenings will feature regular faculty and awarding-winning visiting authors. Graduate credit is available to eligible students.

SOUTHAMPTON CHILDREN'S LITERATURE CONFERENCE (7/9 - 7/13)
For Writers, Illustrators, and Lovers of Children's Books.
Are you interested in writing or illustrating children's books? Studying children's literature? What better way to spend a few days in the Hamptons?  We're inviting writers, illustrators, and readers to come together to analyze and celebrate books, plays, and television programs for children. Graduate credit is available to eligible students.

SOUTHAMPTON SCREENWRITING CONFERENCE (7/30 - 8/3)
This five day residential program will inform, inspire, and challenge new and advanced screenwriters as well as anyone who is interested in using the language of film to tell a story. Our goal is to further our particpants understanding of the art of the screenplay and their individual writing process through our unique workshops, panels, roundtable discussions, and seminars. This program will encourage and motivate attendees under the professional guidance of accomplished screenwriters, educators, and script analysts. Graduate credit is available to eligible students.
