Description: Seven days of morning workshop meetings in poetry, literary nonfiction, and fiction focus on generating new work. Writing Workshops offer challenging exercises, reading and critiquing work, as well as discussion of technique. Class size is limited to nine participants and a fellow. Evenings are spent with public readings from instructors, visiting writers, and workshop participants. Whether you've been writing for years, recently graduated from an MFA program, or have just now decided to take the leap out of your private notebooks and into a classroom, you'll find a workshop here to meet your literary goals. Workshop participants live on the historic campus of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio (about an hour northeast of Columbus, Ohio) for the week. LITERARY NONFICTION-Rebecca McClanahan
Description: Savor "la dolce vita" (the sweet life) of writing in Vitorchiano, Italy with instructors from The Kenyon Review. Editor David Lynn will lead a workshop in fiction, entitled "The Art of the Short Story." Poetry Editor David Baker will offer "A Window on Poetry" for poets who seek inspiration atop the hillsides of Etruscan Tuscany. Rebecca McClanahan will focus on transforming real life experiences into artful texts in her workshop, "Shaping Memory: People, Places, and Real Life Stories." Vitorchiano is a charming village dating back to the Middle Ages, located 45 minutes north of Rome by train.  Workshops will be held in the wonderfully restored ground floor of a medieval building with a stunning view of the gorge. Afternoons will be free for writing and private consultations, as well as opportunities to explore the locale. Applications are online at www.kenyonreview.org/workshops/italy.php.
