This is a fitting place for writers to create their masterpieces and enjoy the luxury, peace and tranquility of this Georgian villa. Mount Vernon is set on the famous Flaggy Shore - the inspirational landscape for Seamus Heaney's poem - The Flaggy Shore. | Description: | This is an exclusive residential Writer's Retreat for eleven writers. The workshop is open to new and established writers. The ideal participant will be committed to the writing process and is seeking an experience and in-depth understanding of fiction writing, story creation and personal creativity, coupled with the great outdoors. It is required that the participant is capable of walking two to three hours at a time. Throughout 5 days and 4 nights the group will write and explore inner creativity and engage in inspiring walks around Inis Mór - the largest of the Aran Islands. The duration of each walk is flexible - 2/3 hours across easy terrain (not mountain trekking!). This workshop will provide the perfect setting for you to discover and develop your writing skills as you tap into your imagination, not only through writing, but by enjoying and exploring the rugged and invigorating terrain of Inis Mór island. Experience island life as you learn to kick back to a pace conducive to writing and thinking creatively. Using right-brain/left-brain writing techniques and exercises, the creative writing workshops throughout the week will focus upon creativity, deepening and enhancing your unique writing voice through the art of creative writing and the development of story. You will understand how characters are created, how to develop them and learn techniques to imaginatively incorporate your character into the structure of story. You will also concentrate upon Theme within story as you learn how to weave and integrate life experiences into story narrative. You will be enthralled by guided walks to the ancient island sites as you listen to mythical stories told by Dara Ó Maoildhia, a great storyteller and Celtic scholar living on Inis Mór. You will also delight in a pony trap ride to one of these ancient sites! In the evenings you will be able to mix with the locals and enjoy Irish Traditional music. You will also have plenty of time to explore the island in your own time, or to just sit and write, as you overlook the vast Atlantic Ocean.
